Shenandoah Brewing has been making house beers for Dr. Dremo's Taphouse in Arlington since January 2003. Our task was not to duplicate recipes used in the past but to provide Dr Dremo's with popular and uncommon styles of beer to help maintain the unique and ecclectic nature of the bar. Six of our beers are regularly on tap throughout the year and seasonal specialties are also available. The beers we brew for Dr. Dremo's are also available in six packs, cases and kegs to go from the brewery. One of our nine draft lines is also dedicated to a rotating selection of Dr. Dremo's beers. Please stop by the brewery for a tour and get your favorite beers to go!

Dr. Dremo’s Ale
What’s not to love to love about this beer? It is a strong, hoppy amber ale made with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops, including a generous dry hopping with that same blend. There is a good malt base to complement the hoppy character of the beer. The alcohol by volume (ABV) content of the beer is about 7 percent. This beer was developed specifically for Dr. Dremo and is the kind of beer you can keep coming back to.

Dr. Dremo’s Brown Ale
Another beer developed specifically for Dr. Dremo, this is a hoppy American brown ale made with Willamette hops. There is also a good malt base in this beer, utilizing several unique specialty malts, to complement the hoopy character. The ABV content of this beer is about 6.5 percent. This beer goes particularly well with the pub grub.

Dr. Dremo’s Centennial IPA
One of Dr. Dremo’s favorite beers. This is a golden colored pale ale made solely with Centennial hops. Hop bitterness, flavor and aroma is definitely pronounced in this beer, which is also generously dry hopped. The ABV content is about 6 percent. This is another beer you can keep coming back to and is also available from our brewery under the Centennial Ale brand name.

Dr. Dremo’s Stout
This is a smooth, rich, creamy oatmeal stout that we have been producing since 1998 under the Stony Man Stout brand name. Flaked oats are used in the mash, hence the name and the creaminess. The ABV content is about 6 percent. This beer won a Silver Medal in the 1998 World Beer Championships and a Gold Medal in the 1998 National Brew-on-Premises Competition.

Dr. Dremo’s Porter
Porters are a rarely found beer on draft in our area so this is a unique offering from Dr. Dremo’s. We brew a porter seasonally and when one batch runs out, we brew the next one. Styles brewed in the past have included a smoked porter and a regular porter. The current porter on draft is a robust rye porter, so named because a robust porter has a higher alcohol content and there was some rye malt in the mash. Rye malt provides s drying effect on the palate, which balances the increased sweetness with the 6 percent ABV content. Overall, the current porter is a nice dark beer leaving you wanting another.

Sneaky Pete’s Barleywine
So named because it can sneak up on you. There is a saying of German brewers that you should not feel the bock beer you are drinking until you go to get up from the table. We took that concept to heart in developing this barleywine, which is styled after a Finnish homebrew called sahti, known for its strength and being lautered through juniper branches. The beer is also commonly made with rye, so we used it too, and while we did not lauter with juniper branches, we added juniper berries in the mash, the lautering process and wort boiling. This is a big beer at 10.5 percent ABV and while you feel the warming sensation of a high alcohol beer, you do not taste the alcohol. This is also available from the brewery under our Millenium Ale brand name which we have produced since 1999.

*Technical note: Dry hopping is a technique of increasing the hop aroma of a beer by adding hops directly to the fermenter after the primary fermentation is complete.
