JOB DESCRIPTION: Assistant Brewer
Cellar and Bottling Operations

Shenandoah Brewing Company is the only brewery, brew-on-premise and brewpub in the DC metropolitan area. Working in this kind of environment means that you will be part of a team and will be involved in all aspects of the brewery’s operations but will concentrate your efforts in the cellaring and bottling operations. Your work will encompass both manufacturing and retail aspects of the business.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Managing and handling of customer-brewed beer through fermentation, racking, conditioning and packaging.
  • Managing and guiding customers through their bottling/packaging session.
  • Managing and handling of SBC-brewed beer through conditioning and packaging.
  • Maintaining, operating and cleaning of bottling and related equipment.
  • Maintaining and cleaning of the fermentation and conditioning rooms and the bottling and associated work areas.
  • Maintaining clean and sanitary standards in all aspects of your work.
  • Assisting in managing and maintaining the proper inventory of needed supplies.
  • Assisting in the production and maintenance of a proper inventory of bottled and kegged SBC product.
  • You will take direction primarily from the headbrewer/brewery manager and coordinate inventory needs with the pub manager.

Your skills must include

  • The ability to learn and be proficient in the technical and physical aspects of beer handling in the stages of fermentation, conditioning and packaging.
  • The ability to cordially and professionally work with the public and teach customers in the safe and efficient use of the equipment they will operate.
  • The ability to lift full cases of beer as well as move full kegs of beer.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • The ability to work hard and efficiently without constant supervision.
  • The ability to work with and maintain mechanical equipment without destroying it or injuring yourself or others in the process.

Hours
Tuesday: 10am to 2pm flexible hours this day (4 hours)
Wednesday: 9:30am to 6:30pm (9 hours)
Thursday: 3pm to 11:30 pm (8.5 hours)
Friday: 3pm to 11:30 pm (8.5 hours)
Saturday: 9:30am to 8pm (10.5 hours)

Pay
Starting, no experience, $9/hour. Starting pay is negotiable based on experience.

Employment conditions
Job training provided. Safety equipment and training provided. Three month probationary period. Health insurance is available. 401K plan is available after 12 months employment. Possibility to be promoted and trained as brewer if position is available and aptitude is shown.
